Look How Far We've Come in Jesus!

In 1990, the Lord Jesus Christ blessed Bishop H.M. Johnson (then an Overseer) with the mind to travel to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, every Thursday evening to have bible study in the home of Brother Troy and Sister Wanda Sawyer. Through the teaching held during the bible studies, the Lord blessed souls to accept Jesus’ plan of salvation and to be saved. Jesus blessed the saints with a van to travel faithfully over the highways, every Sunday morning, to Friendship Apostolic Church of God, affectionately known as our “Mother Church”,  located in Deanwood Park, MD, where Bishop Horace M. Johnson, Jr. was the pastor. The saints attended Sunday School and morning worship services.

In 1995, the Lord Jesus Christ gave Elder Stephen K. Scudder (then a licensed minister) the mind to travel to Philadelphia each Sunday to continue teaching souls about Jesus’ plan of salvation. Services were held in the home of the late Mother Dorothy Sanders and the late Mother Odessa Dawson.

It was the desire of the saints to one day locate a building to hold church services. Through their continued prayers and faithfulness to Jesus Christ, on October 20, 1998, Jesus blessed the saints to find a building on the corner of Union and Wallace streets in West Philadelphia. The Lord Jesus Christ blessed the late Mr. Benjamin F. Hyman, Sr., the grandfather of Elder Stephen K. Scudder, and the late Mr. Benjamin Julye, his uncle, to remodel the previously owned “Anderson store” into the Philadelphia Apostolic Church of God. On February 21, 1999, the Philadelphia Apostolic Church of God held their first Sunday morning service.

On May 16, 1999, the Philadelphia Apostolic Church of God was dedicated and Elder Stephen K. Scudder was installed as pastor. We continue to thank Jesus for His many blessings towards us.
